Old Oceans Breathwork | Trauma-Informed Breathwork in Midcoast Maine + Online
When language fails, breath remains.
An intentional breathwork practice brings you beyond words and into deep healing, focus, and creativity. Personalized, trauma-informed sessions — in person in Rockland, Maine, or online from wherever you happen to be.

Breathwork is elegant in its wordlessness
When language fails, breath remains — guiding you to places beyond the grasp of racing thoughts and lost focus. The constant urge to reinvent, to escape, to try one more therapist or one more meditation isn't a call for transformation. It's a plea for simplification.
For those with high stress, high productivity, and high expectations, we make the same mistake: we assume we need to do more. We optimize our time, our bodies, our brains... to what end? So we can add more expectation, more stress, more productivity.
At Old Oceans, we believe the opposite. When you want to 10x your life, the key isn't doing 10x more in your days. It's doing less. This belief welcomes you into a world where every breath is meaningful, and where creativity, ferocity, and ease become available from a vantage point you couldn't see before.
Frequently asked questions + Everything you need to know
WHAT BREATHWORK IS
The breathwork of a freediver looks nothing like the breathwork of someone deep in grief. Depending on the tradition and the intention, it can look a hundred different ways.
At its core, breathwork is an active meditation built on an intentional breath pattern.
It doesn't require you to be a spiritual person. It doesn't require beliefs, rituals, or practices outside the act of breathing itself. No crystals or talismans needed. Just you, your lungs, and space to be.
I keep it simple. No complicated rituals, expensive tools, or three-week retreats.
WHAT BREATHWORK DOES
Breathwork is a focused recalibration of your relationship with yourself. It's not a cure-all, and I won't pretend it is. But a steady practice tends to make itself known.
Release. Movement through what feels stuck, held, or long overdue.
Clarity. Perspective that arrives without being forced.
Attention. Voluntary focus, in a life that rarely offers it. From kids screaming, dogs needing walking, meetings that could have been an email, and social media sucking our souls out of our eyes — breathwork is a chance to reclaim your attention.
Creative access. Quieter analytical noise, louder symbolic knowing. Ideas surface faster when you stop hunting them.
Rest. The kind that feels defiant in a world that never stops asking for more.
Breathwork isn't going to magically solve all your problems. But it might make solving them less overwhelming, give you a clearer perspective, and make you a slightly more functional human in a wildly dysfunctional world.
Who is this for?
Take a big belly breath if you recognize yourself here:
You work a lot. You're capable, driven, and quietly running on fumes.
You're full of ideas and plans, but when it comes time to actually do it...pffftt.
You consider yourself creative, but somewhere along the way... between the demands of life, the state of the world, and everything else...you lost some fire.
You've tried meditation, therapy, yoga. Some of it helped. None of it quite stuck.
You're skeptical of wellness. You roll your eyes at the language of healing, but you show up anyway.
You're tired. And curious, and something in you knows it's time.
You want a practice that's yours, not a homogenous prescription.
How to know if it is not for you?
You're looking for a guru, a savior, or someone to tell you what your experience means.
You want a heroic healer who pushes you past limits you never agreed to test. I'm not a psychotic tug boat captain. I won't push you anywhere you don't want to go.
You want a promise that one session will resolve your trauma. Nobody can honestly offer that.
You want to be told what to feel, when to cry, or what your breathwork "means."
Medical considerations. Breathwork is not suitable for everyone. More intensive forms are not recommended for individuals diagnosed with severe asthma, COPD, or epilepsy; those in their first trimester of pregnancy; anyone with a recent brain injury or seizures; or anyone who has recently consumed alcohol or mind-altering substances. If you are dealing with something that might be contraindicated there are usually ways to work around and find appropriate practices for you.
Breathwork can produce strong physical sensations and emotional releases. If you have any doubt about your suitability, consult your healthcare provider before practicing.
What does a session actually look like?
Every session moves through three phases. Each phase has a bit of talking and guidance from the facilitator (me!) and som music.
🐚 Arrive. A natural settling in. Your breath finds its rhythm, your body arrives fully in the present moment. Smooth guided breaths get you started.
🔱 Explore. The three-part breath — inhale into the belly, expand into the chest, exhale completely. Accompanied by music, prompts, and encouragement from me.
🪼 Integrate. Restorative breath, then herbal tea and optional time to journal or simply sit quietly. You've gotten used to the rhythm. You're bobbing around happily. You're a mermaid now.
Rooted in agency. There is no pressure to participate in any particular way, and no requirement to share anything about yourself or your experience. Adjust, pause, sit up, lie down, open your eyes. You are the author of your experience. Often, the most powerful moment of the practice is the silence after.
You don't need a reason to breathe. Not for productivity. Not for others. Not for enlightenment. You can come because you're tired, because you're curious, or because you want to give yourself permission to feel and experience with no judgement or agenda.

I stumbled into breathwork in New York City. My sister brought me to one of her witchy things in a Brooklyn warehouse, and it broke my cynical heart open. My hands turned into claws and I cried. I felt everything and nothing, and the only words echoing in my head were I forgive you. I forgive you. I forgive you.
Before that, I was certain breathwork was woo-woo white lady spirituality. I was an artist. I didn't need any of that touchy stuff. I drank whiskey straight from the bottle and poured my feelings into my art. Except that didn't work so well. Breathwork did.
Over fifteen years and hundreds hours of advanced training later, I still haven't found anything that returns me to myself faster.
I'm not a healer, a guru, a doctor, or a magician. I'm a trauma-informed breathwork facilitator, an artist, a writer, and a daily practitioner. I'm dedicated to personalized, trauma-informed experiences rooted in your own agency and autonomy. There is elegance and simplicity in the knowing that each breath is an opportunity to connect more deeply to the world, and to let your knowing internal self inform how you sho sup in it.
When I'm not breathing into the vast secrets of the universe, I enjoy gila monster sightings, wondering what dogs would say if they could talk, and running across hot sand into cold water.
